Hey there! We’re the maxams.

We’re a tag team couple based out of Atlanta exploring the limitless potential of treehouse space and design within the STR (short term rental) industry. We’re on the journey to build 20 unique, treehouse hotels all across the world and are ever learning, ever pushing, and ever creating. [Currently in NY!]

You may know us by our flagship location in Atlanta (@theatlantatreehouse), but if you’re new here- welcome to our journey! We’re excited to show you and have you along. Both of us come from incredibly humble beginnings and have found the success that we have today through a tremendous amount of trial and error, risk, and our fair share of failures. We’re here to show you our journey thus far and what we’ve learned along the way.

The Journey (shortened)

  • 2014

    On a whim, Darrel creates prototype #1 on a random weekend while Patrice is away…

  • Early 2015

    Our concept proven successful, we created and built unit #1- Tin and Juice Treehouse!

  • 2015

    With the success of unit #1, Darrel decides to make units #2-5 in latter half of the year. The triplex.

  • 2016

    We found our groove and decided to build up into the trees… units 6 and 7 came shortly after that thought!

  • Late 2016

    Airbnb was a success! We were featured on multiple news outlets, was listed an airbnb top stay, and was featured on the HGTV show “Tiny BnB.”

  • 2022

    2022 We launched our Youtube and began documenting. We were featured on channels of the likes of Shelby Church and Levi Kelly!

  • Late 2022

    We began construction on our newest hotel, the Finger Lakes Treehouse in Q3 of 2022. Our first five units now fully operational. Opened July 2023!

  • 2023

    We launched this website, began the break up with Airbnb, taught at UNC Chapel Hill, and have opened our NY location.

  • Patrice’s background as a nurse was her true career calling, but while she doesn’t care for patients anymore, her instinct to care for others and pay attention to detail has been a transferrable skill that has allowed her to create a red carpet experience for guests in her second career of buildings resorts.

    Patrice grew up in a small town in upstate NY with a large family with two brothers and three sisters. Worked relentlessly in the corporate world to create a life for herself and has now, together with Darrel, been working towards building their dreams and leaving an impression on future generations, and her kids.

    She loves meeting all of the guests and enjoys learning from others from around the world. She loves to travel and looks forward to living a life as nomads as they build out the next 18 locations.

    Lead designer & Architect, Project Manager, Creative Director

    Darrel was born in Jamaica but was raised in Connecticut. He holds a Bachelor in Art/Marketing, Masters in Construction Management and an MBA in Project Management. He is an Afghanistan Army combat veteran.

    He is a disabled veteran who came back with PTSD and used construction as an outlet for his mind. His search for mental respite led to him creating physical getaways that fueled his idea of making Maxam Hotels a global hotel brand.
